  • Akiba Byrd
    Akiba Byrd Cultural Awareness Officer

    Akiba graduated high school from Meadville, PA, and received his BS in Operations Management and an M.ED in College Administration from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Akiba’s first job after graduating from the Master’s program was a program development specialist for a Job Corps Center Operator over 20 years ago.  7 months into that job the president of the company left a memo on his desk that said a new dress code had been passed by the Dept of Labor stating no afros, braids, or locked hair was acceptable on Job Corps Campuses.  He was notified the day before he was to leave for the job corps center that he had until the end of the day to be in compliance with the dress code, resign, or be terminated.  Being the young and outspoken freedom fighter he was, he chose the latter of those and never looked back since then.

    After his termination, he started his training and educational work-life by creating One Village ~ One World, Consulting, Inc. and worked through that business to touch the lives of thousands by improving their cultural, learning and working experiences in many different work environments across the country.  Akiba has worked in adventure discovery and experiential education training hundreds of different companies, school, and church groups consisting of youth to elderly members of our society. 

    Akiba’s mission in life is to educate and empower people to reach their potential. From personal experiences, he understands how hard it can be growing up poor and what it takes to overcome that. Akiba always had family, friends, and an extended support network to provide guidance when he needed it. But fighting through the challenges of racism and oppression have always been part of the package when he was excelling while many of his cohorts were pushed aside. Therefore, it is ingrained in him to serve others by helping them realize their potential and finding success where it is least expected.

    Akiba has been the Executive Director for the NC Fair Share CDC for the last 8 years. A statewide economic/social justice non-profit focused on organizing and empowering disenfranchised groups and communities. His passion is working with African youth between the ages of 13-17. He does this primarily through traditional African Rites of Passage & Leadership Training. He also works with men and fathers to train them in supporting and developing themselves, their families, and communities.

    All these experiences give Akiba a unique ability to see people through many different lenses and understand and communicate across cultural lines to make needed connections in challenging situations. Akiba now runs Akiba Coaching 4 Life, LLC, and continues to work with groups and individuals in building bridges of learning to understand first themselves and then others in these present-day climates of division and hostility in many cases. So, working now with McKnight Williams & Associates as the Cultural Officer is an honored and natural next step in his evolution to change lives and improve the world.

    Akiba now resides and works out of Raleigh, NC with his wife and 3 children.

    James Williams Sr. Sr. Vice President
    Rev. James Williams (B.Ph.M.Div) is a “Organizational and Leadership Liaison” with an overwhelming drive and motivation to help individuals and organizations connect to their purpose. He is a coach, consultant, teacher, trainer and counselor.

    Rev. Williams has over 40 years of leadership development experience, working with churches, non-profit organizations, government agencies and corporations. He brings to this work a wealth of wisdom to help enhance lives and increase productivity. He is the founder and CEO of Awareness Ministries, and the principal consultant for the Center for Progressive Leadership.

    Rev.Williams is the former pastor of The House of The Lord Center, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the former Southeastern District Elder of The House of The Lord Churches. He currently serves as Associate and Minister to Men at Christian Faith Baptist Church, in Raleigh, NC,

    Rev. Williams is a nationally recognized speaker, trainer and consultant. He has trained and worked with literally thousands of community volunteers, government employees and church leaders throughout the United States, helping them to actualize their organizational and individual goals.

    Born in Brooklyn, New York he is a product of the New York City Public School System and the City University of New York, where he graduated with honors and majored in Business Administration. Ordained to the ministry in 1974, he is an alumnus of the New York Theological Seminary and holds advanced degrees in Divinity and Pastoral Counseling. Rev. Williams is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.

    A devoted family man. He is the proud parent of two children and a gloating grandparent to eight grandchildren to who he is affectionally known as “poppy”.

    Latrece has over 25 years of Leadership Development experience. For 15 years Latrece worked for the Federal Government in leadership roles as an Accountant and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Director. Over the last 13 years Latrece has developed into one of the most influential leaders in the areas of church and organizational growth as well as youth, and children’s ministry development. As a John C. Maxwell Certified Coach, Speaker, and Teacher she can offer workshops, seminars, keynote speaking, and coaching, aiding your personal and professional growth through study and practical application of John’s proven leadership methods. Working together, she will move you and/or your team or organization in the desired direction to reach your goals. Latrece holds undergraduate degrees and certifications, with honors, in Business, Education and Theology from Tidewater Community College, Old Dominion University, Andersonville Theological Seminary and Princeton Theological Seminary.
